LET’S BE FWENDS ISSUE #94:
REMOTE WORK CAN MAKE IT HARDER TO AQUIRE NEW INFORMATION
“It is the struggle itself that is most important. We must strive to be more than we are. It does not matter that we will never reach our ultimate goal. The effort yields its own rewards.”
~ Lt. Cmdr. Data
Today, we have a look at the dangers of remote work without a remote work culture, consider why most people prefer physical pain over thinking too much, check out global ship traffic, lock down our digital life, and wonder about the smallness of musical bubbles.
Is Remote Work More Static?

After nearly two years in Remote Work- or Hybrid settings, I think we figured out how to use video calls, online collaboration tools and asynchronous communications and information capture to be productive. Distributed organisations had that game down for years.
And once the initial pain is over - what happens to a company that moves from office culture to remote work?
Here’s a study that found out that our collaboration networks freeze, and become more static. We’re exposed to the same information and people day in, day out, and it’s increasingly hard to break out of your silo.
That’s why effective remote work needs purposefully crafted practice to break out of routine, have solid introspection, and connect new dots. It’s possible, it just doesn’t come by itself.
Mommy, my brain hurts

Thinking is hard work. It’s so much hard work that a surprising amount of people chose experiencing physical pain over doing it.
Luckily, there are remedies and ways to trick your brain into performing strenuous mental work.
Still, please remember this important scientific finding before scheduling a whole-day workshop without breaks again.
I’m on a Boat!

Hey, ain’t that cool, like a flight tracker but for ships.
Secure your digital Life

Here’s some very good advice onlocking down your digital lifethat is aimed at mitigating everyday risks, instead of talking to people followed by the CIA.
